Experienced New Jersey Criminal Defense Attorney
Indictable Offenses | Municipal Court and Disorderly Persons Offenses | Drug Crimes
When you’ve been charged with a crime, regardless of whether it’s a minor offense in Municipal Court or an indictable offense in County Superior Court, the lawyer you hire to protect your rights can make a substantial difference in the outcome. You want an attorney with experience, someone who knows how prosecutors think and prepare their cases, who has demonstrated an ability to effectively protect the rights of criminal defendants in court.
At Yonta Law, LLC, we’ve dedicated our entire legal career to criminal law. Before opening our private practice, focused exclusively on criminal defense, attorney Kimberly Yonta spent more than a decade as a New Jersey prosecutor. We know how the state’s attorneys evaluate, prepare and argue criminal cases, and can anticipate the steps they’ll take in pursuit of a conviction. Because of our reputation for obtaining positive results for our clients, many of our new cases come to us as referrals from our colleagues in the legal profession.

An Overview of Our Practice
We concentrate our practice exclusively on criminal defense, aggressively fighting for the rights of people at any stage of a criminal proceeding. We handle most types of criminal matters, including:
- Most indictable offenses, from homicide crimes and theft offenses to drug crimes, weapons violations, robbery, burglary, kidnapping and arson
- Charges prosecuted in Municipal Court, such as traffic and motor vehicle offenses, as well as disorderly persons offenses
- Drug crimes, such as possession, possession with intent to sell, trafficking and distribution, and manufacturing or cultivation
We will protect your Constitutional rights at any stage of a criminal proceeding, whether you are merely under investigation, your case is going to trial, or you have received an unfavorable ruling from the court and need to file an appeal.
We will conduct a thorough investigation, so that we can gather and preserve all evidence to support your defense. We will also examine how police obtained evidence against you, so that we can ensure that there was probable cause for any search, seizure or arrest, and that you were properly notified of your rights when taken into custody. Moreover, if you were convicted of a crime and sentenced, you have a right to appeal with 45 days after sentencing.
Kimberly Yonta has significant experience with post-conviction appeals, applications for Intensive Supervision Programs (ISP) and Post-Conviction Relief (PCR) applications as a prosecutor and as a defense lawyer. She will help you determine a plan for post-conviction relief that suits your case and your needs.
Every client has a story that needs to be told at sentencing. Kimberly Yonta knows that every client is different and must have their story shared with the court. Her knowledge and experience can help you obtain the post-conviction relief you need.
